Maui can be expensive but it can also be VERY affordable if you are travel savvy and know how to find the best value for your money.
Stay in a condo versus a hotel. One of my favorites is the Westin Ka’anapali Resort Villas. The rooms are huge, great kiddie pool, the staff is awesome, breathtaking views and hard to beat beachside location. Every time I go there to provide an in-room massage to a guest I leave with the same opinion of the place, that it is one of the best places to stay while on vacation on Maui.
Use the kitchen and eat in. Eating out can rack up the bill, especially for a family so why not take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen in your rental. The Times Supermarket in Honokowai has pretty much everything you may need at not too outrageous a price. If you’re a fan of Costco make a point to stock up when you arrive on the island, it’s right near the airport in Kahului.
Book an in-room massage from an Independent Professional Massage Therapist. Now that you’ve saved a bunch of dough on food and lodging on Maui don’t blow it all on the Spa for that Vacation Massage you’ve been dreaming about. For a fraction of the cost of a Spa Massage Session on Maui you can have a professional LMT (such as myself) come to your room or even on the lanai and give you a fantastic Massage – or two because of all the money you have saved being so smart.
Today I gave a massage session to a guest on the sixth floor lanai of the ocean fronting building at the Westin Villas and the setting could not have been better. Cool breeze, ocean waves and the best part – no travel to and from the Spa, all he needed to do was wake up and be there. Sounds pretty relaxing to me don’t you think?
